The API standard stipulates that there shall be no folding, separation, cracks, or injuries on the inner and outer surfaces of the oil casing pipe. These defects should be thoroughly removed, and the removal depth should not be less than 12.5% of the nominal wall thickness. The oil casing must undergo full coverage automatic wall thickness detection.

Currently, there is a wall thickness indirect measurement method based on the leakage magnetic principle. It is not a direct method of measuring wall thickness, but a method of indirectly measuring wall thickness by measuring magnetic field changes caused by changes in wall thickness.

Therefore, the magnetic field intensity has a great influence on the accuracy and resolution of wall thickness detection and is not suitable for online automatic detection. Magnetic ultrasound does not require a coupling agent, but it is difficult to excite ultrasound waves in unevenly surfaced pipelines. Industrial ultrasound phased array probes have high manufacturing costs and complex systems. Currently, this equipment is rare in China.

Detection of oil casing pipe wall thickness
